It made me think that a plot doesn’t always have that surprising plot twist to make a story worth reading when your characters, your conversation and the flow of the story is interesting on its own, plot twist means nothing. To be fair, two out of three (what I assume as) surprising plots to the story was correctly guessed by me, and usually I wouldn’t be too happy about that but the way the story flows were just interesting and I just love all the characters so much that I could really let that small discomfort go. What was left of any romance factor has sailed away into the barren sea when Ally decides to trace back her roots to Norway. The one thing that got me hooked the most with this story was how it almost felt like reading a detective story than reading a romance novel. The conversation flows effortlessly and there were never any moments where I feel my cringe meter rising up. All the conversations, interactions, and even descriptions of the characters in this book were easy to digest, and not at all obnoxious or pompous like in Maia’s story. Okay, except for one particular character but I’ll get to that later. Obviously Ally was not the only likeable factor to this story, almost if not all the characters in this book, past and present (for this book also takes us back to the past as Ally searches from where she came from), are relatable. I’m just glad this book was a far more pleasant read than the first one, for clearly if this book was no better than the first one, I was just going to give up the whole series seeing that this one had far more pages than the previous one. It is not to say that Ally was a much more stronger character than Maia Ally had her weak and down moments too, but it’s always interesting to see how she always try to bring herself up no matter how hard it may seem at the time for her. Ally was obviously much more likeable as a narrator compared to Maia. Honestly I am pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book compared to the first one.
